Decided not to use pirated VCDs

Few days back, I saw during an interview director Dharani saying abt this. He was saying abt the difficulties they have in the film industry. I felt bad for using the pirated VCDs. Its a work from a large crew of people and I want to respect their work.

But he forgot to say something.. the profits they make. Say Mr. Rajini plans to act in a movie.. he gets a crore for that. Then his heroine will get a half.. the director will get a half. so it goes on.. if you go down to the level of the dancers and the light man and other down to earth people.., yeah they get paid very less. But no matter whether the movie runs or not.., they still get paid only that much. VCD piracy is a problem. But the problem came because of them. They should reduce the price of the CD so that people will be encouraged to buy the original CD rather than the pirated one. They charge senselessly.. something close to Rs.300. Now naturally anyone will be buying a pirated one for Rs50 instead of the Rs.300.

When these people in showbiz talk of difficulties., it is the reduction in their profits that they are talking about. Actually not reduction., they are talking about all the profits that they'd have made if the pirated CDs were not sold.. i.e. Instead of making a profit of 20 crores.., they just made 15 crores..

Note., once the movie is done. All the profit goes to the producer or director or some people in the higher levels. The ones who suffer are in the lowest levels of showbiz. People like doupes, dancers, sideshow comedians, set designers, lights men, etc.. These people suffer no matter the movie was a hit or not. These people suffer no matter there were pirated VCDs or not. The profits are never shared to these people. This is a capitalist world. So think twice when they say "difficulties".

Yup, what you say is right Joe (but Senthil you are not). I too can understand the difficulties of those people who are uncared no matter the film is hit or flop. By using the pirated VCDs, I feel like ignoring the work of all the people including those behind the screens. So decided not to use pirated ones.
